ONE SMALL THING
I tried 'The Miracle Morning' productivity routine for a month and now continue it. Here's what happened.
Intending to feel more energized and productive in the mornings, I gave my morning routine a makeover, with a few surprising results.
“On the one hand, we all want to be happy. On the other hand, we all know the things that make us happy. But we don’t do those things. Why? Simple. We are too busy. Too busy doing what? Too busy trying to be happy.” —Matthew Kelly, Bestselling Author
One question I often get about The Miracle Morning is regarding how long it should be. For many of us, our biggest challenge is finding time to implement daily Personal Development.
As I’ve developed The Miracle Morning, I’ve realized the need to make it scalable so that even the busiest amongst us can make the time for our personal development.
Here is an example of a 6-minute Miracle Morning for those days when you’re extra busy and pressed for time, or for those of you that are so overwhelmed with your life situation right now that you are feeling stress just thinking about adding one more thing. I think we can all agree that investing six minutes in our Personal Development is reasonable, even when we’re busy, and I think you may be pleasantly surprised when you see just how POWERFUL (and life-changing) six minutes can be!
Imagine that the first six minutes of every morning begins like this…
Minute One… 10 minutes (Silence)
Imagine waking up in the morning, and instead of rushing carelessly into your hectic day—feeling stressed and overwhelmed—imagine that you instead spend the first minute sitting in purposeful Silence. You sit, very calm, very peaceful, and you breathe deeply, slowly. Maybe you say a prayer of gratitude to appreciate the moment or pray for guidance on your journey. Maybe, you decide to try your first minute of meditation. As you sit in silence, you’re totally present in the now, at the moment. You calm your mind, relax your body, and allow all of your stress to melt away. You develop a deeper sense of peace, purpose, and direction…
I DO THIS BY USING MEDITATION APP (THINK RIGHT.ME, PLUM VILLAGE)
Minute Two…
10 minutes(Affirmations)
You pull out your daily Affirmations—the ones that remind you of your unlimited potential and your most important priorities—and you read them out loud from top to bottom. As you focus on what’s most important to you, your level of internal motivation increases. Reading over the reminders of how capable you really are, gives you a feeling of confidence. Looking over what you’re committed to, what your purpose is, and what your goals are re-energizes you to take the actions necessary to live the life you truly want, deserve, and now know is possible for you…
I USE FLASHCARDS IN MY PHONE TO WRITE AFFIRMATIONS AND READ IT DAILY EARLY IN MORNING AFTER WAKEUP REFRESH AND HYDRATION OF 2 GLASS OF WATER. (APPS USED FLASHCARDS)
Minute Three… 5 minutes(Visualization)
You close your eyes, or you look at your vision board, and you visualize. Your Visualization could include your goals, what it will look and feel like when you reach them. You visualize the day going perfectly, see yourself enjoying your work, smiling and laughing with your family, or your significant other, and easily accomplishing all that you intend to accomplish for that day. You see what it will look like, you feel what it will feel like, and you experience the joy of what you will create…
FOR THIS I MAKE A VISUALIZATION BOARD IN MY PHONE AS APP(LAW OF ATTRACTION) AND WITH THIS I MAKE A DREAM BOOK IN WHICH I DRAW PICTURES OF WHICH I GOAL FOR WITH TARGET DATE
Minute Four… 5 minutes (Scribing AND GRATITUDE)
Imagine, pull out your journal, and in your journal, you take a minute to write down what you’re grateful for, what you’re proud, and the results you’re committed to creating for that day. Doing so, you put yourself in an empowered, and inspired, and confident state of mind.
FOR THIS I ANALYSE MY WHOLE DAY ACTIVITIES AT NIGHT AND WRITE DOWN WHICH WORK, CONVERSATION I DO RIGHT AND HOW TO IMPROVE OTHER. (APPS USED PRESENTLY)
Minute Five… 20 minutes (Reading)
Then, you grab your self-help book and invest one miraculous minute reading a page or two. You learn a new idea, something that you can implement into your day. You discover something new that you can use to feel better—to be better.
READING BECOMES MY FAVOURITE AS I READ FROM E-READING AS LOTS OF books ARE FANTASY AND REQUIRE LOT OF SPACE IN HOUSE. I READ DAILY 10 PAGES OF A BOOK AS 30 MIN MINIMUM. (APPS USED ANY BOOKS)
Minute Six… 10 minutes (Exercise)
Finally, you stand up and you spend the last minute, doing jumping jacks for 60 seconds and getting your heart rate up and getting energized and waking yourself up and increasing your ability to be alert and to focus.

How would YOU feel if that’s the 6-minute you started your day with? How would the quality of your day—your life—improve?
My Top 5 Miracle Morning Takeaways
1. You can actually “trick” yourself into feeling more energized in the morning.
This was probably my biggest breakthrough, as someone who loves sleep. Even at age 30, I savor sleeping in on weekends, and getting in bed at night is often the best part of my day. But I still wish I had more energy in the mornings. Luckily, Elrod says this is possible — even on less sleep than you’re used to.
“Whether you currently consider yourself to be a ‘morning person’ or not, you’re going to learn how to make waking up every day easier than it’s ever been before,” he writes. To do so, he suggests setting an intention at night that you’ll feel energized and excited to take on your day when you wake up in the morning. This can essentially trick your mind into feeling more awake. “The mind-body connection is a powerful thing,” Elrod notes.
Believe it or not, the mind game worked. It was a bit jarring for my alarm to go off at 7 a.m. the first morning, but after just two or three days, I started waking up naturally before my alarm. As soon as I woke up, I would tell myself I was excited and grateful for a new day. And sure enough, I began to feel far less groggy and way more awake in the mornings.
2. Meditation — or simply sitting in silence — helps calm an anxious mind.
For my “silence” practice, I choose to listen to Calm, a meditation app. I used to have more of a meditation routine, but it had fallen off. And luckily, as I rediscovered it, I remembered how much I loved these little moments of silence, introspection, and simply breathing. Even when things got stressful (more on that below!), I still made time for mediation throughout the month.
3. Keeping a routine when life gets crazy feels nice — but also impossible at times.
it was refreshing to return to a routine when I was feeling stressed. In particular, the meditation sessions helped me keep things in perspective and start my crazy days feeling relatively calm.
That said, trying to build in six new practices into my mornings was sometimes a bit too much to handle during such a disruptive time.
So I’ll be honest: There were several days during my Miracle Morning month when I didn’t get to do some (or all) of the steps in the routine. Plus, I quickly fell off with the “scribing” habit.
4. Affirmations and visualization work.
Now, I’m not saying that writing down and visualizing a goal is all you need to do to make it happen. Obviously, years of hard work in my field also helped me get this book deal. But I think that this sort of “mystical” practice can be that final push we need for the universe to catch up and align with our goals.
5. Gratitude really can enhance your happiness.
Throughout The Miracle Morning, Elrod talks a lot about gratitude. “The simple act of writing down the things I was grateful for lifted my spirits,” he says. And science agrees: Many studies have shown that practicing gratitude can help people feel happier, less anxious, and less depressed.
Whether or not you write out a gratitude list in the mornings, the mere act of focusing on the good things in your life — rather than the negatives — every morning can truly change your mindset, as I quickly discovered.
